Details of the final draw procedure

Following the approval of the FIFA 2018 FIFA 2018 World Cup Final in Russia in September 2017, as well as the determination of the basket composition and the announcement of the leading and casting assistants, all 32 teams participating in the mundialya will gather at the State Kremlin Palace on December 1 (at 6 pm on Moscow time) to find out their rivals in the group round of the 2018 World Cup.

As previously reported, the teams were divided into four baskets according to the FIFA / Coca-Cola World Ranking (as of October 2017), and the top seven teams were in the first basket, as well as the national team of the FIFA World Cup 2018 Russia.

Remove the balls from the baskets will be in order: starting with the first basket and ending with the fourth. Go to the next basket will only after the groups are distributed all the commands from the previous one. According to the standard procedure, first get the ball with the name of the team, and then the ball with the group designation and the number that indicates the command sequence number in the corresponding group.

Additional Information

  1. The Russian national team, as the host country, receives the designation “Team A1” (that is, the first team in Group A) at the Draw, and will be marked with a red ball in the basket 1.
  2. The remaining seven teams in the basket 1 will be divided into groups (from B to H) and will automatically receive the sequence number 1 in each of them. The order numbers of the teams from the baskets 2, 3 and 4 will be determined by lot.
  3. According to the general principle of FIFA, in each group there can be a maximum of one team from one continental zone. This rule applies to all zones, except for the UEFA area, represented by 14 teams. In each group there must be at least one, but not more than two European teams. Thus, in six of the eight groups there will be two European teams.

Division of teams into groups by geographical principle is controlled by a special system that will take into account all factors, therefore, in the procedure for determining the places of teams in groups, individual groups can be omitted. For example, Peru, Colombia and Uruguay – teams from basket 2 – do not exactly fall into the same group as Brazil or Argentina, which are in the basket 1. A similar rule applies to teams from other confederations, except UEFA.
